Die casting refers to the casting method of injecting molten or semi molten metal into a metal mold at high speed and crystallizing under pressure. The commonly used injection pressure is 30-70MPa, the filling speed is about 0.5-50 m/s, and the filling time is 0.01-0.2 seconds.
Die casting is a casting method that fill liquid or semi solid metals or alloys, or liquid metals or alloys containing enhanced phases, into the cavity of a die casting mold at a high speed under high pressure, and make the metal or alloy to solidify under pressure to form a casting. The commonly used pressure during die casting is 4-500MPa, and the metal filling speed is 0.5-120m/s. Therefore, high pressure and high speed are the fundamental differences and important characteristics between die casting and other casting methods.
Advantages of Die Casting
1.High productivity, easy to achieve mechanization and automation, capable of producing thin-walled castings with complex shapes. The minimum wall thickness of die-casting zinc alloy is only 0.3mm, the minimum wall thickness of die-casting aluminum alloy is about 0.5mm, and the minimum cast hole diameter is 0.7mm.
2.The casting has high dimensional accuracy and low surface roughness value. The dimensional tolerance level of die-casting parts can reach CT3~CT6, and the surface roughness is generally Ra0.8~3.2 μ M.
Disadvantages of Die Casting
1.During die casting, the filling speed of liquid metal is high, and it is difficult to completely eliminate the gas in the mold cavity. The casting is prone to defects such as pores, cracks, and oxidation debris. Die castings usually cannot undergo heat treatment.
2.The structure of die-casting mold is complex, with long manufacturing cycles and high costs, making them unsuitable for small-scale casting production.
3.The cost of die-casting machines is high and the investment is large. Due to the limitations of the locking force and installation size of the die-casting machine, it is not suitable for producing large die-casting parts.
